Public servant, poet. Ian Campbell obtained a Master of Arts in Indonesian Studies from the University of Sydney (1989). He has published poems in English and Indonesian, convened several poetry performance events in Sydney, and has had much liaison with ethnic and refugee communities Sydney through his employment with the Commonwealth Public Service. Great-nephew of Arthur Wheen, translator of novels by Erich Maria Remarque. Campbell also has an interest in inter-war European literature. ...

Erich Maria Remarque (the pseudonym of Erich Paul Remark) was a German-born writer most famous for his 1929 work All Quiet on the Western Front (Im Westen nichts Neues), which describes the brutality of World War I from a young soldier's perspective. His literary works include both novels and plays; several of his novels were made into films. Remarque was born in Osnabruck, Germany on June 22, 1898. Wheen, A. W. (Arthur Wesley), 1897-1971

A. W. Wheen, Rhodes Scholar and winner of the Military Medal during World War I, was the translator of E. M. Remarque's novels, in particular All quiet on the Western Front.
